Mayor Duties

The executive branch of a village is created and established under Ohio Revised Code 733.23 which creates the office of the mayor. The mayor of a village is the "chief conservator of the peace" and president of the legislative authority, to preside at all regular meetings of the council, but has NO vote unless there is a tie.

The mayor of a village shall be elected for a term of four years, commencing on the first day of January next after his/her election. He/She shall be an elector of the village and shall have resided in the village for at least one year immediately preceding his/her election.

The mayor is authorized to perform all duties prescribed by the bylaws and ordinances of the village, and sign any document required by the legislative authority or authorized by law.

The mayor has the general supervisory capacity over each department within a village and each office provided for under Title 7 (Municipal Corporation) of the Ohio Revised Code. The mayor is also responsible for issuing charges against any officer whom the mayor believes may be in dereliction of his duties.
